Ensuring that our pupils gain life-long experiences and make lasting memories will always remain one of our key priorities here at Gorsemoor. We endeavour to provide our children with experiences that not only enhance their learning, but inspire them for the future. Below, we are delighted to share just a handful of trips, visits and visitors that our pupils have had during their time here at Gorsemoor.
Here is what some of our children had to say about some of our enrichment opportunities:
Daisy (Year 3) "During our water workshop we created a video for South Staffs Water in the style of a news report that talked about the importance of not wasting water. I'd like other year groups to do it because I enjoyed it a lot!"
Poppy (Year 1) "Buddy from the NSPCC taught us that if you ever feel bad or if you are emotional you could call the NSPCC or tell a grown up."
Ollie (Year 6) "For Cadets, we learnt about different crimes such as trespassing on private property. At the end of the course we did an investigation on a crime scene and found out who had committed a burglary by looking at different types of evidence such as footprints, DNA and fingerprints."
Sienna (Year 6) "The Cadets was such a good experience because it made me realise that the police aren't that scary, they are actually here to protect us. It was definitely worth putting the time into the sessions and doing the application form. The Year 5's next year should definitely do it!"
Here at Gorsemoor we are proud members of our local community. Each year we continue to build on existing relationships and strive to create new links with local partners, in order to promote our pupils' sense of belonging within our local area. Our character virtue of 'Global and Local' also enables us to focus on the importance community for an entire half-term, where each year group focusses on global and local issues. We pride ourselves on our dedication to local events and causes, and make it our mission for Gorsemoor to be a strong pillar of our community.
Community events we have been included in include:
Here is what some of our children had to say about some of our community events:
Hallie (Year 4) "At the Safe and Sound workshop we met lots of different people in different jobs. A lady called Maggie taught us about canal safety and what to do if you fall into the water. You spread your arms and legs out and shout for help so someone can call 999 and throw you a lifebouy."
Spencer (Year 4) "John at Network Rail told us why you shouldn't go over the yellow line at a train station because the speed of a train can pull you onto the tracks. He told us that it is safe to cross a road but not train tracks because it takes so long for trains to stop."
Each year we conduct a pupil voice survey to ascertain which extra-curricular clubs our pupils would like to see at Gorsemoor. We are thrilled to offer our pupils the opportunity to learn new skills, undertake fresh challenges and make new memories through our after-school club provision. Following the results from our pupil voice, staff in school have gone above and beyond to offer our students a wide range of clubs such as baking, multi-sports, basketball, netball, art, bedtime stories, tag rugby, running, construction, LEGO, cycling and many more!
This year we are delighted to be undertaking the Excellence in Pupil Personal Development Award through Optimus Education. This award offers a structured framework to evaluate and enrich our pastoral curriculum here at Gorsemoor. It supports us in in developing pupil’s personal attributes and attitudes, such as self-confidence, resilience and self-discipline. With a focus on involving local and national organisations, it helps us to prepare our pupils at Gorsemoor for life in modern Britain. We are hoping to achieve this award by June 2025.
