At Gorsemoor Primary School, we are dedicated to providing our students with a wide range of enriching extra-curricular opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) highlights the positive impact of extra-curricular participation on academic attainment, school engagement, and the development of key life skills such as self-confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
To further enhance these opportunities, we are proud to be part of the Staffordshire Children’s University—an exciting initiative that recognises and celebrates children’s commitment to learning outside of school. This programme encourages pupils to explore new interests, take ownership of their learning, and gain a real sense of achievement.
The Children’s University is a national programme that has been inspiring young learners since 2009. It encourages children to participate in a variety of validated learning activities, both in and outside of school, to broaden their skills and aspirations. Research shows that children who engage in structured extra-curricular activities develop a stronger sense of belonging in school and are more likely to achieve academic success.
Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 (Years 2-6) can sign up for the Children’s University and begin their exciting journey towards graduation! Each child will receive a Passport to Learning, where they collect stamps for every validated activity they take part in. As they progress, they earn awards and certificates, starting with the Bronze Award (30 stamps) and working towards higher qualifications, including diplomas and degrees. The ultimate goal? A Postgraduate Masters Degree from the Children’s University!
Our dedicated staff, Mrs Campbell and Miss Deeming, have worked closely with Staffordshire University and other local schools to set up the Children’s University at Gorsemoor. They are available to support and guide families interested in joining the programme.
This scheme has been hugely successful in other schools, and we are thrilled to be launching it at Gorsemoor! We look forward to seeing our pupils develop new skills, explore exciting opportunities, and ultimately graduate as part of the Children’s University family.
