In Year 1 and Year 2, pupils learnt about our local village of Heath Hayes during their history topic in the autumn term. We also invited members of our local community in to talk about their roles and how they support our village.
In Year 3 and Year 4, the children chose to learn more about the global issue of deforestation and created posters about what deforestation means and the effects it has worldwide!
As a Picture News school, we learn about current local, national and global stories. This year, we joined in with Picture News' live assembly along with over 2000 other classrooms for Children's Mental Health Week. Following this assembly, Year 5 and 6 completed their own work around mental health, including making safe decisions and understanding their 'circle of control'.
It is our mission to live and breathe our character virtues through our school community, relationships and ethos. This is why it is so important to us here at Gorsemoor to celebrate moments when character is caught by our pupils, staff, families, governors, visitors and wider community!
Take a look at some lovely feedback we have had...
This year, we set our pupils a challenge to make connections in our local community for our character virtue of Global and Local. We were blown away by the entries to our competition, which included children from Gorsemoor completing litter picking, short films about what you can find in our local area, video Q&A sessions with members of the local community, food and toy donations, making bird feeders, baking and decorating cakes for neighbours and the local workforce, posters, and fundraising. The children who took part not only made Gorsemoor and the community proud, but themselves proud too! Well done everyone!
