Growing together, hand in hand

Chair of Governor's Welcome letter

Welcome to all parents, carers and friends,

My name is Byron Preece and I am privileged to have been Chair of Governors for approaching three years following a period of twelve years as a Co-opted Governor and to be working with such a professional team of staff and governors. As Chair I will strive to ensure that objectives of both staff and pupils are met with continuous improvement in all areas of the school being aspirational and realistic.

As a board we have three core strategic functions which are: -

  • Ensuring that everyone associated with the school understands the school’s vision and ethos for your children.

  • Working with the Co-Head Teachers to ensure that your children realise their potential and that all staff are supported and trained to achieve this.

  • Ensure that the funding we receive from central Government is well spent.

The Governors are from a range of backgrounds, mine being finance, but we could not do our jobs without the expertise of the Co-Head Teachers, Senior Leadership Team, Staff Governors and the committed teaching, support and ancillary staff within Gorsemoor Primary School.

I think the most important thing is that Governors are a team, not a collection of individuals or groups with separate agenda’s. However much we may differ in our opinions and experiences we are united by our commitment to the school and the responsibility we share for the school’s long term success. This commitment to being a team has resulted in difficult decisions being made to ensure both the financial and educational security of our school for future years. All board members are given the opportunity to contribute and, therefore, ensure solidarity.

Our recent OFSTED inspection that resulted in our school gaining a rating of Good was a reward for the immense efforts of all staff members to provide the best opportunities for our children in their formative education years.

Should you be considering choosing Gorsemoor Primary School for your child’s education I would encourage you to contact the Co-Head Teachers to arrange a visit that will enable you to see our staff and pupils working hard to achieve their potential.

If you see me at a school event, please come and have a chat. Another way I can be contacted is via governors@gorsemoor.staffs.sch.uk. You will see other Governors at school events as we try to attend as many as possible between us so, once again, have a chat.

To summarise, we all want to provide your child with the best possible start in life to succeed and it is my belief that with the right commitment from everyone, the Governors, staff and yourselves we will succeed in this aim.

Yours faithfully,

Byron Preece

Chair of Governors
