Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND)
At Gorsemoor Primary School we are dedicated to ensuring that each and every pupil achieves their full potential. We embrace our pupils' individuality and nurture their academic, social and emotional growth. We believe that all pupils, including those identified with having a Special Educational Need and/or Disability (SEND) should be able to fully access a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum. Our aim is to ensure that pupils gain the skills and knowledge, so that they are ready for their next stage of education.
At Gorsemoor Primary School we have a wealth of experienced staff who are able to support our pupils in a wide variety of areas. Our Inclusion Lead is non-class based which enables us to provide assistance to pupils, class teachers, Teaching Assistants, as well as parents, in a timely and productive manner. We have additional teacher support who focuses on the development of English skills, and well as working with Teaching Assistants who support pupils who are find spelling challenging. Our Teaching Assistants work under the guidance of our class teachers and our Inclusion Lead. One of our Teaching Assistants works closely with our pupils who require additional Speech and Language support. We also have an established Reading Squad - a small team of dedicated parents and grandparents who read on a regular basis with our pupils. Additionally, we have a Pastoral Support worker, who is a HOPE trained mentor. Her afternoons are dedicated to supporting the social, emotional and mental well being of our pupils. We also have qualified Yoga teacher works with targeted groups of children once a week.
At Gorsemoor Primary School, Mrs Lisa Deeley oversees Inclusion and SEND. She is supported by Miss Maddie Deeming who oversees Early Years SEND.
