Welcome to Geography at Gorsemoor

It is our belief, that the purpose of education is to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to prepare children for their diverse working lives, build character, teach knowledge for its own intrinsic value and ignite a love of learning.  We believe geography achieves this purpose by stimulating an interest in and fascination about the world and the people in it that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.  At Gorsemoor, we want to inspire children to think about their own place in their local community and the wider world and to consider their rights and responsibilities to other people and the environment.  Geographical enquiry encourages questioning, investigation and critical thinking about issues affecting the world and people’s lives, both now and in the future.  The positive participation in geographical investigation can help personal development through improving transferable knowledge and skills that can be used to promote moral, social and cultural development.  We believe children should be able to express well-balanced opinions, rooted in good subject knowledge and understanding of geographical issues.  Above all this, we want children to be passionate about geography.
